CAN-Move: Salford Community Leisure
A cancer rehabilitation programme for anyone living with or beyond cancer
CAN-Move is a 12-week programme to support anyone living with or beyond cancer, to be physically active and improve their wellbeing. It is available to anyone with a Salford postcode or GP and delivered by exercise specialists from The Active Lifestyles Team, part of Salford Community Leisure.
Research has shown being active during and after cancer treatment can be beneficial for both physical and mental health. Benefits include fatigue management, help to reduce decline of/improve physical function, improve mood and wellbeing and quality of life. It could also help to improve longer term outcomes such as reducing recurrence risk and support general health.
CAN-Move includes exercise in a relaxed atmosphere, delivered individually or in groups with a real community feel. Face to face, online, indoor and outdoor activities are available. Receive support and encouragement from instructors and peers within group settings. Anyone referred can access a varied choice of options including use of the gym, swimming, aqua, walking groups, all ability circuit-based classes, as well as more holistic classes such as yoga, tai chi and wellbeing gardening sessions.
Self-referrals are accepted as well as referrals from primary and secondary care. For more information:
